Let’s face it: Unless your employer believes in unlimited vacations or you have lots of help with your kids, it can be pretty tough to find time off to recover from a cold, let alone a cosmetic surgery like liposuction.

Perhaps that’s why one of the most popular questions we get asked is this one: “How long is recovery from liposuction?”

For Small Treatment Areas: 3-4 Days

If you had liposuction performed on a small area – like underneath the chin, around the knees, or the armpits – then it’s likely you’ll be able to return to work in just a few days after your surgery.

Keep in mind that this doesn’t mean you can go right back to the gym or lift heavy objects. Your movement will still be partially restricted for a week or two while your surgical incisions heal. In general for a larger area such as the abdomen if your job does not require lifting or straining the average is between 3 to 5 days before returning to work.

Dr. John Bull will provide you with an in-depth plan to follow during your first two weeks of recovery.

For Large Treatment Areas: Up to 10 Days

If you’re treating your abdomen, back, chest, or thighs, it’s recommended you take up to 5 to 7 days off of work. This is because your body will experience more trauma during the liposuction surgery, so it may take a little while longer to recover than if you had a smaller area treated.

The only exception to this rule is if you work a physically intensive job, in which case, we recommend taking two full weeks off to recover from liposuction.

You should be ready for normal activities within three to four weeks after your surgery. Dr. Bull will work closely with you to ensure that your post-op recovery goes according to plan.

Excellent experience every time! Everyone is always so friendly and very knowledgeable! Dr Bull is awesome and I’m very pleased with my results.
