Normal aging has a major impact on not only the facial skin, but also the lips. Even if you started out with lips that have a fuller, plumper shape, they may eventually become thinner and lose their definition as your body begins to produce less collagen and elastin—the building blocks of supple skin. This is one of the most noticeable areas of the face that’s affected by aging. Of course, many people are also not satisfied with the natural shape of their lips and wish they could do something about it. Whether you want to simply add some extra fullness to your lips, improve symmetry, counteract the effects of aging, or volumize lips that have always been on the thinner side due to genetics or DNA, hyaluronic acid lip injections from our Naperville-based practice can give you the look you’ve always wanted and significantly boost your confidence. If you’re planning to have lip fillers such as Juvederm® Volbella, here’s what we think you should know about lip filler aftercare:

1. Some Swelling and Bruising Could Occur

Don’t plan to have injections right before an important meeting or event, because with any kind of needle injection, you’re likely to have some mild swelling, tenderness, or bruising on the first day, even though you’ll be able to resume most of your normal activities.

2. Take the Pressure Off

To get the best results and maximize the length of your fillers, try to avoid touching or manipulating the treatment area. If you apply too much pressure to your lips, you could interfere with the work that your injector has done by agitating the filler too much.

3. Wait on Going to the Gym

Strenuous exercise is another thing you should avoid for a brief time after having lip fillers (or any type of fillers). Avoid any intense exercise for the first 24 hours, as it could cause increased blood flow to the area, making any swelling and bruising worse.
