Natural & Harmonious
Rhinoplasty at Naperville’s John Bull Center is a procedure for patients who feel that their nose doesn’t match their facial structure, whether because of its size, shape, or general proportions. Nose surgery can alter the entire nose or focus on a specific feature, such as the tip or bridge. No matter the specifics, Dr. John Bull’s goal is to use rhinoplasty to shape the nose so that the results appear natural and harmonious. He strives to deliver the best rhinoplasty Naperville has to offer. A hump or asymmetry visible on the outside can indicate a similar structure on the inside, which can impede airflow. With this in mind, nose surgery can also involve internal procedures to address obstructions and improve breathing.

See More Before & AfterRealistic Goals
During rhinoplasty surgery, Dr. Bull separates the skin of the nose from the supporting framework of bone and cartilage below. He then reshapes the nasal framework and re-drapes the skin over it. For most Naperville rhinoplasty patients getting a reduction in the size or an alteration of the shape of their nose, or having a hump removed, Dr. Bull makes the incisions inside the nose. This allows him to move the nasal bones closer in order to narrow the nasal bridge. He can also reduce the nasal tip by re-sizing the cartilage through the inside incision, though this may also require making a small incision at the base of the nose.
The angle between the nose and the upper lip can be improved by elevating and trimming the septum, the dividing wall between the two chambers of the nose. It is also sometimes necessary to narrow the base of the nose. This procedure involves removal of skin and tissue from the inside of the nose, so the scars are usually not noticeable. Note that rhinoplasty performed to correct congenital deformities, relieve breathing problems, or repair defects caused by trauma may be covered by insurance. Such cases are judged on an individual basis and require pre-authorization.
The Right Fit For You
The best candidates for a rhinoplasty procedure are those who feel as though their nose is misshapen or throws off their facial symmetry, and who want surgery to address these issues. All rhinoplasty candidates should be healthy nonsmokers, since nicotine products can lower the body’s ability to heal itself properly.
Patients considering a rhinoplasty should also have realistic expectations for the procedure. It is simply not possible to “re-create” someone else’s nose on your face. What looks good on one person—such as a celebrity—will not look the same on someone else’s face, because the nose is more than an isolated feature. It is important for Dr. Bull to take the nose’s relationship with the eyes, cheeks, chin, ears, and other parts of the face into account for every rhinoplasty surgery he performs. Understanding this can help to manage expectations and improve satisfaction in the outcome.

Other Options
Other facial surgery procedures available at the John Bull Center include eyelid lifts to address drooping lids, facelifts to elevate sagging tissue in the mid- and lower face, and brow lifts to raise and smooth the forehead.
Patients may want to combine any of these with a rhinoplasty to get a refined and rejuvenated look. Nonsurgical treatments, such as fillers like Juvéderm®, can alter facial contours and help the nose to appear proportionally smaller or have a different shape. Discover which option would be best for you by arranging a consultation with us.
Nasal pads may be inserted at the time of a rhinoplasty surgery to protect the septum. These pads are removed the day after the procedure. A lightweight splint is also applied after surgery to maintain the new shape of the nose. The splint is usually removed within a week. Although most nose surgery patients are able to get up and move around later the same day of their procedure, strenuous exercises—particularly activities that might elevate blood pressure—should be avoided for at least four weeks. Our Naperville rhinoplasty patients should also avoid sun exposure for about eight weeks, since post-surgical skin is highly sensitive. Exposure to ultraviolet radiation can cause scars to grow darker and more apparent.
The nose takes some time to settle into its new shape after rhinoplasty surgery. While the initial changes—from a straighter and flatter bridge to a refined tip to a generally smaller appearance—will be noticeable just after the procedure is completed, the nose’s ultimate look may not be achieved for a year due to the very gradual process of swelling reduction in the area.
Board-certified and highly accomplished plastic surgeon Dr. John Bull is not just committed to providing beautiful cosmetic surgery results in a safe and comforting environment. He also wants every patient to feel heard, understood, and confident in their choice.
