More Youthful Appearance
The forehead is an especially active part of the face, taking part in a range of expressions from surprise to confusion to just about anything that involves the eyebrows going up or down. Because of the constant activity, the forehead is also a feature prone to developing signs of aging. Using injectable neuromodulators—such as Jeuveau™ and Xeomin®—the Western Chicago area’s John Bull Center for Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Medispa can relax the forehead muscles that make wrinkles and lines appear, creating a smoother and more youthful appearance that lasts for months.
Nonsurgical treatments may be quick to administer, but that doesn’t mean the process is one that just anyone can handle. Neuromodulators are powerfully effective prescription medications that should be injected by highly trained and experienced professionals who know how to combine medical and anatomical knowledge with a keen eye for aesthetics in order to safely provide natural-looking rejuvenation. Dr. John Bull and his team provide the Jeuveau™ and Xeomin® injections at his center, working from a commitment to make each patient experience the best it can be.
There are several types of neuromodulators, all of which can be used to address lines on the face. While the most widely known of the group—BOTOX®—is FDA approved to smooth out two types of forehead lines, as well as crow’s feet, Jeuveau™ and Xeomin® all have approval for a specific sign of aging: frown lines. These vertical wrinkles, which resemble the number 11, are technically known as glabellar lines because they appear on the glabella, which is the small area of the forehead between the eyebrows. This area is controlled by the corrugator supercilii muscle, which pulls the eyebrows downward and together to convey emotions, help with squinting, and more.
Each time the muscle contracts, the glabellar skin moves. Over time, this repetitive motion causes grooves to develop, with the resulting wrinkles becoming more apparent and pronounced with every new contraction. Jeuveau™ and Xeomin® keep this muscle from contracting, which allows the skin to sit at rest and appear smoother—even when you are raising, lowering, or “scrunching” your eyebrows. In the experienced hands of the John Bull Center team, Jeuveau™ and Xeomin® can also be used in what are known as “off label” uses, which are widely applied around the country. This means they can be used to address crow’s feet and horizontal forehead lines.
Both neuromodulators—Jeuveau™ and Xeomin®—use a purified form of botulinum toxin as their active ingredient. This naturally derived chemical prevents messages from properly being received by targeted muscles, so even if the brain sends a signal for them to contract, they remain still.
Other muscles, however, are still able to contract, so you can still make your full range of facial expressions. The difference after a neuromodulator session is that the specific area associated with noticeable wrinkling won’t bunch into age-revealing grooves. Each injectable has its own unique qualities—including the time it takes before seeing the effects, as well as its overall duration—but in general, the results of Jeuveau™, Xeomin®, and BOTOX® take a few days to a week to become noticeable, and they can be expected to last for several months.

Shape & Enhance
Neuromodulators are injected via tiny needles to minimize patient discomfort. To further improve the Jeuveau™ or Xeomin™ injection process, your injector at the John Bull Center will also use the NUEVIBE™ device, which vibrates against the skin to serve as a distraction from the sensation of the needle entering the skin.
This is a proven way to get the brain to focus on the feeling of the vibrations instead of the needle. The injection process itself should take about 15 minutes, whether you’re choosing Jeuveau™, Xeomin™, or BOTOX™. There is no downtime associated with any neuromodulator injections, so you can continue with your normal routine. Know that you may notice some temporary swelling and bruising at the injection site, which usually only lasts for a couple of days.
You’re a good candidate for these injections if you have mild to moderate frown lines on your forehead and between your eyebrows, or you notice fine crow’s feet developing next to your eyes. To find out which option—Jeuveau™ or Xeomin™—would be best for you, consult with Dr. John Bull, who can talk you through the specific benefits of each neuromodulator.
