Feel More Confident

Add Volume with Breast Implants to Get a New Shape and Size in Western Chicago and Naperville

Are you self-conscious about the size or shape of your breasts? Do you want to feel more confident about how your body looks in your favorite tops and dresses? If a curvier or fuller silhouette is your goal, then it’s time to discover breast augmentation at Naperville’s John Bull Center for Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Medispa, serving Western Chicago and beyond. Dr. John Bull has helped many patients achieve a more pleasing breast shape and contour through breast augmentation surgery. We strive to deliver the best breast augmentation Naperville has to offer. Breast augmentation, technically known as augmentation mammaplasty, is a procedure to enhance a patient’s breast size, change the breasts’ shape, or both. Advances in breast implants and surgical techniques are making breast augmentation more popular among women of all ages, as are improvements that allow for easier and faster recovery. Dr. Bull has used a Rapid Recovery Technique for years, with some patients able to enjoy their results without the need for any opioids while they heal. This technique allows for a typically shorter recovery period and lets patients get back to a normal routine and participating in low-stress activities much more quickly.

Discuss Your Cosmetic Goals

What Does Breast Augmentation Address?

How you feel about the size, shape, and overall appearance of your breasts is a uniquely personal matter. Some people are perfectly happy with the look of their breasts, no matter how large or small they are, while others wish they had more volume. For patients who want larger, shapelier breasts, breast augmentation is the solution. Breast implants can increase the size of breasts that have been small ever since they developed, correct post-pregnancy volume changes, and create symmetry when there are differences in breast size. Before any decisions are made, Dr. Bull will meet with you to discuss your cosmetic goals and determine whether breast augmentation is the best surgical solution for you. Note that breast implants add volume, but do not address sagging. For patients whose breasts sit low on their chest or point downward toward the floor, a breast lift is a better choice. In some cases, breast augmentation and a lift may also be paired with other procedures, such as liposuction, to address the changes pregnancy, childbirth, and nursing cause. Combining these various surgery procedures for this reason is known as a “Mommy Makeover.

Unique Goals In Mind

How Does Breast Augmentation Work?

Breast augmentation involves Dr. Bull inserting a cohesive silicone gel or saline breast implant into the breast itself through one of three different incisions: around the areola, in the natural crease under the breast, or in the armpit.

Dr. Bull will select the location based on the specific anatomy and preferences of each patient. In any case, the scar should be hidden well in natural lines and contours, and so be minimally noticeable once it heals. The implants used in breast augmentation can be placed under the chest muscle (subpectoral) or under the breast tissue alone (subglandular). As with incision locations, breast implant placement depends on individual anatomy. Many breast surgeons believe that putting the breast implants behind your chest muscle creates a more natural look and feel with less rippling and a reduction in the potential for capsular contracture. Patients may have one breast implant only, two breast implants of different sizes, or two breast implants of the same size. The goal is to achieve soft breasts that are in proportion to the hips and waist. With Dr. Bull’s guidance and experience in working with unique goals in mind, a great breast augmentation outcome can be achieved.

“I have been going here with Dr. Bull for years. I got my first breast augmentation here and felt very comfortable with his staff. He is very respectful and was very satisfied with his work. I recently went to reduce my surgery and get a lift and again, very pleased. I have also done BOTOX and other facial treatments and love their work. I would highly recommend going here for any procedure.”*

Realistic Goals

Who Is a Good Candidate for Breast Augmentation in Western Chicago?

The best breast augmentation candidates are patients looking for improvement, not perfection, in the way their breasts and chest look, as well as the way their clothing fits.

Ideal candidates are in good health and at or near their goal body weight. Gaining or losing significant weight after the surgery can cause changes that alter the results of your breast augmentation. Good health includes mental health, as well. It is important that any patient considering a cosmetic procedure understands what it can and can’t do. When approached with the right frame of mind and chosen for personal reasons—as opposed to trying to please someone else—breast augmentation can boost confidence and self-esteem.

What Is the Rapid Recovery Technique Dr. Bull Uses for Breast Augmentation?

Dr. John Bull has a precise set of steps he uses to speed recovery and shorten post-surgical downtime for his Naperville breast augmentation patients. The approach, known as the Rapid Recovery Technique, involves him making an incision in the inframammary fold (the line where the mound meets the chest beneath the breast) and precisely creating a submuscular pocket to hold the breast implant. Dr. Bull has years of experience in applying the Rapid Recovery Technique, which makes an opioid-free recovery possible for breast augmentation patients—depending on a few details, including breast implant size. Many women find that they are even able to enjoy a low-key active evening after their surgery, because they feel good enough to dine out or even walk and shop. Every patient’s experience is unique and depends on individual factors—such as healing ability—but the Rapid Recovery Technique can truly make a difference. Dr. Bull will discuss the details during your consultation.

What Breast Augmentation Results Can Be Expected?

Breast augmentation is consistently the most commonly performed plastic surgery procedure in the United States each year. Its long history and ongoing popularity mean that, although every patient’s experience is unique, we know what to generally expect in terms of recovery and results. After breast augmentation, you may feel tired and sore for a few days, but should feel much better after 48 to 72 hours. The discomfort can be controlled with medications. Some patients need nothing more than Advil, but Dr. Bull can prescribe other medications to help manage discomfort during healing following augmentation with the Rapid Recovery Technique. Expect some post-surgical swelling and bruising, which will recede in the days and weeks after your breast augmentation procedure. This means your results will not be apparent right away. Breast swelling can take three to six weeks to resolve, but our Naperville breast augmentation patients should be able to return to work within one week, depending on the level of activity required for their job.

Additional Reading

Your breasts may be sensitive for two to three weeks, so you should avoid any physical activity that could exacerbate that sensitivity during the healing process. Around six weeks is when you can expect what is known as the “drop and fluff” phase. This is when the breast implants fully settle into their long-term position and the lower portion of the breast fills out. Breast augmentation surgery can provide very satisfying results as patients learn to appreciate their fuller appearance and feel more confident in clothing that didn’t look like it fit properly before. Routine follow-up appointments with Dr. Bull are recommended, as are mammograms to assure that there are no complications. Following these recommendations means that if complications do arise, they can be detected early and treated. While modern breast implants are well made and safe, they are not intended to be “lifetime” devices. Chances of rupture—though minimal—increase over time after the initial breast augmentation surgery, so regular check-ups are an important part of maintaining good health and beauty.

Breast Augmentation Frequently Asked Questions

At your consultation, Dr. Bull can help you envision your ultimate outcome with Vectra® 3D imaging. This technology allows him to create realistic, high-resolution images that show what breast implants could do for your silhouette. What happens during your actual breast augmentation surgery and your post-procedural healing will truly determine your final look, but imaging is an ideal way to see what you can expect to see in terms of your profile and proportions. You will be able to get a true-to-life “preview” of the degree to which your breasts will project and how that will impact the look of your shoulders, hips, belly, and more. Basically, this lets you “try on” various sizes and shapes of breast implants—something that was not possible with this level of detail and realism before the technology was developed. This service is included as a part of every breast augmentation consultation.

Breast augmentation can be part of the breast reconstruction process for women who have a mastectomy due to cancer. Some patients have an opposite concern, coming to Dr. Bull because they feel their breasts are overly large. Breast reduction is an option for anyone in this position. No matter a patient’s aesthetic wants or needs—whether enhancing with breast implants, reducing, or rebuilding—Dr. Bull’s goal is to deliver beautiful results that appear natural.
