Am I a Good Candidate for a Mommy Makeover?

Pregnancy can be one of the most exciting and fulfilling times in a woman’s life. The excitement of welcoming a new member of the family can be enormous, as can the happiness and joy of delivering a healthy baby. However, not everything about pregnancy is positive. Some women note changes to their abdomens, breasts, thighs and buttocks that hours in the gym and a sensible diet are not reversing.

If you want to reclaim the figure you had before you conceived, a Mommy Makeover procedure may be the answer you need. While every woman has different needs and desires, there are commonalities all good surgical candidates share.

You’re Not Planning More Children

Most Mommy Makeover procedures include a tummy tuck and breast augmentation. Some women also request lifts to the thighs, buttocks or both. These procedures can all be completely undone by another pregnancy. The skin of the abdomen, once tightened, will simply balloon out and be left saggy and wrinkled after another baby.

Your breasts can also inflate and change in shape, position and volume. By waiting until your family is complete, you can enjoy the fruits of your surgery without fear that the work will be undone.

You Have Already Lost Most of the Pregnancy Weight

It can take a woman a year or longer to lose all of her baby weight, but it’s important to do this before you have a Mommy Makeover or else your skin may not “fit” again if you do lose more weight.

Liposuction can get rid of stubborn fat deposits, but it can’t be used to get rid of the last 15 pounds of baby weight. Give your body time to stabilize before seeking a surgical solution.

Your Youngest is Walking or You Have a Strong Support Network

If you are still dealing with diapers and bottles, you may not be ready for a Mommy Makeover yet. If you include a tummy tuck in your procedure, bending down and picking up your child is inadvisable for the first several weeks.

If you’ve had breast augmentation, carrying a squirming child against you can be highly uncomfortable. Ideally, your youngest child should already be ambulatory, or you have several other adults to assist you during recovery.
