Common Procedures in a Mommy Makeover

Pregnancy can be very tough on a mother’s body. Many women will find themselves struggling with a wide variety of cosmetic issues after giving birth, including skin laxity problems and extra soft tissue around the midsection. A Mommy Makeover can help a mom take care of these problems so she can once again be comfortable with her appearance. There are multiple procedures that can be performed in a Mommy Makeover.

Tummy Tuck and Liposuction

After losing a significant amount of weight in a short period of time, most people will notice extra folds of skin along their midsection and flanks. A tummy tuck is one of the most effective ways to tone the midsection by removing extra soft tissue. During a tummy tuck, the surgeon can rearrange the soft tissue, excise extra skin and pull the remaining skin tight.

Liposuction can be carried out as a standalone treatment or at the same time as a tummy tuck. While tummy tucks allow surgeons to make changes to the skin and muscles, very little is done to remove fat. By adding liposuction to a tummy tuck, the surgeon can remove some of the subcutaneous fat that has accumulated during the pregnancy.

Breast Lift and Breast Augmentation

Almost any changes to a woman’s weight or hormones will affect the size and placement of her breasts. This is why so many women experience issues such as uneven and drooping breasts after multiple pregnancies or breastfeeding. Much like a tummy tuck, the goal of a breast lift is to alter the position of the soft tissue. A lift does not increase the size of the breasts, but they sometimes appear to be larger due to their placement.

Breast augmentation, on the other hand, alters the size of a woman’s breasts. This is accomplished with either silicone or saline implants that are inserted into the breasts. During your consultation, our surgeon will provide you with more information regarding some of the pros and cons of these two types of implants.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Mommy Makeover?

The biggest consideration to make before having a Mommy Makeover is if you plan on having more children. Women who think they might become pregnant at some point in the future should wait until giving birth for the last time. Mothers should also have realistic expectations about the goals and be dedicated to remaining as healthy as possible. Surgical options such as liposuction can permanently remove large portions of fat, but the patient should already be making progress toward their cosmetic and weight loss goals before undergoing any procedure.

The most important thing to remember is that your Mommy Makeover procedure will be tailored to meet your needs.
