Get Rid of Unwanted Hair with Laser Hair Removal

At The John Bull Center for Cosmetic Surgery and Laser MediSpa, we understand that shaving, tweezing and waxing can be a real pain. Wouldn’t it be great to not have to worry about unwanted hair ever again? Well, thanks to laser hair removal, now you don’t have to!

Laser hair removal is a non-invasive, virtually pain-free method used to remove unwanted hair from just about anywhere on the body.  Now is the best time to start laser hair removal, as most patients will require a series of treatments to see full results. Since treated areas need to be out of direct sunlight throughout the treatment process, colder months of winter are the best time for laser hair removal. You can be hair-free just in time for the beach season!

Tips and Facts about Laser Hair Removal

Areas to be Treated

Laser hair removal is great for calves, thighs and bikini areas. It does chest hair and back hair too. This makes laser hair removal a great choice for both men and women, who would like to be hair free. It’s more difficult to remove fine blonde hairs, so it doesn’t work as well on the facial area unless the hair is dark enough for the laser to target the melanin.

Pain Level

Laser hair removal clients will often mention that the pain is like a rubber band popping on their skin. Some clients like to use a numbing spray before their visit. Other clients might take ibuprofen before an appointment. The pain level depends on the client’s overall tolerance to pain as well. Pain levels can differ depending on the area being treated. For example, the bikini area might be more sensitive than the thigh.

Preparation

Before a laser hair removal visit, it’s essential that you meet with us for a consultation. Clients are asked to shave prior to the procedure but the time varies depending on a few factors. In some cases, clients should shave a few days before the visit, and in other cases, it should be done right before the procedure. The type of laser determines when you’ll shave. You should avoid waxing your hair for a few weeks before the procedure.

What to Expect After the Visit

The skin can be red and slightly swollen after the procedure. This should be visibly reduced within a few hours of the procedure. Avoid the sun for two weeks after the procedure. A few days after the procedure, clients will notice that hair is growing. This is normal. Use a washcloth on the area to help remove the hair. Do not pluck hairs that seem to resist falling out. Shave the area until the next appointment.
