How Do You Care for the Skin Around Your Eyes?

From crow’s feet to dark circles, bags, and hollows, the area around the eyes often shows some of the most prominent signs of aging and skin damage. Whether you haven’t been sleeping well, are straining your eyes to look at your phone, are dehydrated, or are feeling ill, the effects can be seen on your skin. Ever wondered why the eyes seem to show your age much quicker than most other areas? That’s because the skin in this area is super thin (roughly 10 times thinner than the skin on other parts of your face) and super delicate, so it’s more likely to wrinkle when the collagen and fat in our skin break down as we age. We also blink constantly and use the muscles around our eyes when we make facial expressions, so the muscles are overused and the skin begins to crease up after a while, forming little wrinkles. BOTOX® from our Naperville team is one of the most effective ways to soften these lines—but remember that while it can improve the look of wrinkles, it won’t correct sagging skin, depressions, or discoloration. Many patients require other types of treatments for enhancing the look of their eye area.

The beauty treatments offered by a typical med spa are skin deep and limited in terms of what they can offer you for enhancing the eyes. Since the John Bull Center offers both surgical and non-surgical procedures, patients can choose BOTOX® to minimize dynamic wrinkles by relaxing the underlying muscles, in addition to blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) to remove excess skin or fat and tighten the skin to make the eyes look more open and youthful. Eyelid surgery can also be combined with other surgeries such as a forehead lift for improving sagging brows, along with a facelift or neck lift for more comprehensive rejuvenation to complement the improvement in the eye area.

ThermiSmooth® can noninvasively smooth and tighten the skin, while adding fillers can help fill in any depressions along the lower lid (known as a tear trough deformity). Other options include the Pearl fractional laser.
