Life can be insanely busy.
So it makes sense that if you’re considering facelift surgery, you want to know – how long should you expect to put your life on hold while you recover? Is it a quick recovery, or will you need to spend weeks hiding away from the world?
When it comes to the length of a facelift recovery, the answer might surprise you. Let’s take a closer look at how long you can expect to be in recovery, as well as steps you can take to have a safe and healthy facelift recovery.

While facelift recovery will be different to every patient, in general, you can expect your facelift recovery to take anywhere from two to four weeks.
Here’s what you can expect during that timespan:
1. During the first 3 to 5 days, you may feel groggy and tired, so it’s important to prepare your recovery space for lots of sleep and relaxing. You may also want to invest in a recliner, as you won’t be able to sleep on your side or face during recovery.
2. You may be able to return to work within your second week of recovery. This is dependent on the type of job you have, as if you’re exposed to anything that could potentially bump your face, you should wait another week or so. Also, there may be some bruising that can be covered with makeup and a little swelling may remain.
3. You can start enjoying light physical activity at the end of your second week or beginning of your third week. You will feel up to doing it earlier, but to avoid swelling, its best to wait until the doctor says its safe.
4. Based on your plastic surgeon’s recommendations, you may be able to return to your normal exercise routine about four weeks after surgery.
In order to have a successful and healthy facelift recovery, we recommend following your plastic surgeon’s post-op plan down to the letter. This guidance should provide you with steps on how to manage your recovery, as well as when you should attend follow-up appointments.
