What is an Eyelid Lift?

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes excess eyelid skin from the upper and lower eyelids and in some cases muscle and fat that gives eyes a tired and puffy appearance. The procedure also helps minimize bags under the eyes.

Having this procedure will give you a more rested and younger look. The incisions heal in the natural creases of the eyelids so they are nearly invisible.

Other procedures can be added to change the shape of your eyes. Doctor Bull will be happy to discuss these minimal to non-invasive procedures with you. Eyelid Surgery can be performed in combination with other procedures, such as facelifts and brow lifts, to further enhance your results.

Candidates for an Eyelid Lift

Most patients choose this surgery to gain a younger appearance and a more attractive look. Blepharoplasty produces the best results for patients who are non-smokers and do not have pre-existing health issues that may hinder healing.

How Does It Work?

This procedure can be done on an outpatient basis using either local anesthesia with sedation or if combined with other procedures, general anesthesia. The duration of the procedure is from one to three hours, depending on the patient and his or her specific goals and needs.

During the procedure, Dr. Bull will make incisions along the lash line for the lower eyelids and in the natural crease near the middle of the upper eyelids. These scars heal well and are very hard to find months later.

What Results Will I See?*

Results from this surgery usually last many years. In some patients, they last forever. This procedure can make a tremendous improvement and take off years of aging, and in certain cases, improve their vision.

What is the Recovery Process Like?*

After surgery, the Blepharoplasty patient must not wear contact lenses for two weeks. This allows incisions to heal properly. Dr. Bull usually prescribes a special ointment for the incisions for the first week. He may also ask you to use eye drops to keep the eyes moist while healing.

We find that most patients can resume reading in two days and some patients have returned to non-strenuous work in three to five days. Strenuous activities may be resumed in two weeks.

“Nice relaxing environment and friendly service.”*
