What to Expect before, during, and after Blepharoplasty Surgery  

During a blepharoplasty procedure, small, inconspicuous incisions are made in the folds of the eyelids, behind the lower lid, beneath the lashes, or within the crease of the upper lids. Excess fat, skin and muscle are removed according to the pre-surgery evaluation, the patient’s goals for this procedure and his or her facial structure.

Once the surgery is complete, warm compresses and topical, antibacterial ointments can be used to expedite the healing process. Patients are advised to rest with their heads in an elevated position in order to minimize swelling and route fluids away from the surgery site. There will be redness, swelling and some bruising around the eyes that can last for several days or several weeks. As swelling decreases, the new, more youthful eye shape will be revealed.
