What Happens During a Tummy Tuck

1. Anesthesia will be administered.

Tummy tuck surgery is a major procedure; that’s why it’s done under general anesthesia. Your plastic surgeon will introduce you to your general anesthesiologist before you undergo your abdominoplasty surgery.

2. The incision is made near the pubic bone.

Once you’re asleep, your plastic surgeon will make a horizontal incision between the belly button and the pubic bone. You may have some slight scarring after this surgery, but the incision is designed to that it can be covered by underwear or a bikini bottom.

The length of the incision will largely depend on how much excess skin needs to be removed to achieve your desired results.

4. The incisions are closed.

Once your plastic surgeon has trimmed your excess skin, your plastic surgeon will close the incision with sutures or skin adhesives. You’ll be provided with post-op care instructions to make sure your incisions properly heal.

The tummy tuck process may be a little different if you opt to add liposuction surgery to the overall procedure. This combined procedure is a good option for you if you have excess skin and stomach fat that won’t respond to diet and exercise.
