What to Expect from Your Eyelid Lift Recovery

1. Anticipate taking a week off from work.

Most people are able to return to work about one week after their eyelid lift. Save up your vacation or personal time so you can recover without worrying about getting back to work right away. That way, you can focus on what really matters: your eyelid lift recovery! While the majority of the time you will feel fine, the bruising and the sutures can be visible for a week. If you work from home, it may be possible to resume work after only 3 days, but it all depends on your job.

2. Follow your surgeon’s self-care instructions.

You won’t be leaving your plastic surgeon’s office empty-handed after your eyelid lift surgery. Expect to be given a set of instructions for taking care of yourself. From cleaning your incisions to wearing eye protection when outside, these instructions can help you enjoy a speedy recovery.

3. You’ll have dry eyes.

Dry eye is perhaps one of the most common conditions that occur after eyelid lift surgery, so don’t be surprised if your eyes are irritated during your first week of recovery. While it may be tempting to binge your favorite TV show or read a new book while you’re resting, these activities may exacerbate your dry eye. Ask your plastic surgeon for eyedrop prescriptions or take frequent breaks if you choose to catch up on entertainment.

4. Relax, relax, relax!

Don’t push yourself to speed up your recovery. Blepharoplasty is a major procedure, so if you’re not ready to return back to work or hit the gym, don’t pressure yourself to do it. It’s when you try to force yourself out of recovery that you end up creating potential problems!
